Lesson 105 from Superior University featured two threads: So Fine #50™ and a high-sheen trilobal polyester thread called Art Studio Colors™. So Fine is a lint-free multi-filament polyester thread available in three weights, #30, #40, and #50. So Fine #50 is ideal for quilting, general sewing, clothing construction, and serger use. The Art Studio Colors trilobal polyester thread is a high-sheen decorative thread recommended for embroidery, machine quilting, and decorative stitching.
Our assignment in Lesson 105 was to make a memo book cover. The So Fine #50 thread was used for construction; the Art Studio Colors trilobal polyester thread was used for adding a top-stitched decorative edge to the pockets. We needed to choose two contrasting fabrics for the project. Using the thread colors as a guide, I strategically cut a bold graphic print for the outside cover and inside pockets and used a coordinating purple and red print for the inside cover and fastening strap.
Superior Threads produce so many different types of thread that it can be difficult to position and differentiate them. I have found the assignments from Superior University to be very helpful with this, as they have given me the opportunity to try different threads in a variety of small projects. If you would like to sign up, check the Superior University web page for enrollment information. It’s a lot of fun, and educational too!
