The quilt Instruments of Praise was inspired by the words of Psalm 150. “Praise Him with the sounding of the trumpet“, it says. And so, one of the blocks in the quilt was designed to showcase that instrument.
I started with a motif I found in CorelDraw’s medieval clip art file…
… figuring a trumpet could replace the center clover shape.
Using this motif as one-quarter of the design, I rotated it four times and added another motif in the center to complete the block design.
Here is how the trumpet block looked after it was appliquéd.
To design the quilting lines, which would also be stuffed using the cut-away trapunto technique, I drew some more medieval-inspired shapes around the trumpet motif.
Here is the trumpet block quilted and set on point.
Any one of the four blocks in this quilt would work on its own as a wall quilt. Here is “Trumpets of Praise”, my entry into the 2010 IQA Silent Auction.
You can make this block – or the whole quilt – with the Instruments of Praise Pattern Pack, available from C&T Publishing or my web store this summer!
