Quilting Timeless Beauty Tutorial
Timeless Beauty is a quilt featuring the Time After Time fabric collection from Northcott. In this tutorial, we will talk about how to quilt Timeless Beauty including: outline quilting connected shapes; outline quilting closely-spaced shapes; quilting the flowers; quilting motifs; adding lines; and quilting background fill. 11:00
Outline Quilting Connected Shapes
Learn how to outline quilt a group of connected shapes by doubling over some of the lines. This will save you considerable time and reduce the number of stops and starts. 1:47
Rather than outline quilt closely-spaced shapes like the beads individually, try quilting a small circle between each printed circle. 1:21
Outline Quilting Leaf & Berry Motifs
Rather than outline quilt closely-spaced shapes like the leaf and berry motifs individually, continue the quilting line from one shape to the next. 1:31
For the closely-spaced shapes in the red flowers, outline quilt the inner gold circle then follow around the edges of the four red petal shapes. 1:14
For the leaves on the corner branches, continue the quilting line from the branch to a leaf, and from leaf to leaf, without stopping and starting. 0:57
The flowers are groups of connected shapes of petals and leaves. I used a purple air-erasable fabric pen to draw in some of the flower petals before quilting. 1:09
There aren’t a lot of wide-open spaces in Timeless Beauty for quilting motifs, but I did find two! Download the free motifs here. 1:05
Adding lines helps reinforce the shapes implied by the leaf and berry motifs and defines the boundaries for quilting a background fill. 1:16
You can choose any background fill you like. I opted for a half-inch diagonal grid and used a stencil to mark it on the fabric. 0:53
Birth Flowers Block-of-the-Month Tutorials
Choosing fabric for a new project is fun and exciting, but it can also be a bit daunting if you don't know where to start. In this tutorial, we will talk about how to choose the fabrics for the Birth Flowers block-of-the-month patterns.
Preparing for Appliqué Tutorial
There is some preparation involved before we can actually start to appliqué. The steps will vary depending on your applique method, so we will look at three alternatives in this tutorial: needle-turn, Apliquick, and fusible appliqué.
In this tutorial, we will talk about the birth flowers border pattern: what it includes, and how to use it to add a border to one block or multiple blocks. We will also talk about how to use the pattern to make a quilted frame, where birth flower blocks can be switched in and out from month to month like a perpetual calendar.
Many appliqué designs look harder than they really are, because the shapes are created by overlapping other shapes. In this tutorial, we will take a closer look at overlapping appliqué and talk about how to handle these shapes with needle-turn and Apliquick turned-edge appliqué.
Most of the flowers in the Birth Flowers block-of-the-month are appliquéd in the same way, but June’s roses are a bit unique. In this tutorial, we will take a closer look at the roses in the June block to get a better understanding of how they are put together.
